PepsiCo entered the Romanian market in 2004 by acquiring Star Foods, the leading potato chips company, which had been present in Romania since 1993. Thus, PepsiCo became one of the main players in the Romanian snacks market.
With over 1,500 employees, in 2023, PepsiCo Romania received the international Top Employer certification for the twelfth consecutive year. Present in the country since 1965, Pepsi-Cola is one of Romania's most beloved brands, associated with freedom and youth. In 1991, PepsiCo's soft drinks portfolio began to be produced and distributed through a new franchise system by the bottler Quadrant Amroq Beverages (QAB). QAB produced and distributed soft drinks from the PepsiCo portfolio until 2006, when it was acquired by PepsiAmericas, PepsiCo's second-largest bottler in the world.
Currently, PepsiCo Romania has a broad portfolio of beverages (including Pepsi, Prigat, 7UP, Mirinda, Evervess, Gatorade, Lipton), as well as snacks (Lay’s, Star, Doritos). These products are manufactured in the two plants owned by PepsiCo in Romania: Star Foods SNACKS in Popesti-Leordeni and Dragon Beverage in Dragomiresti, both located near Bucharest.
Star Foods SNACKS, the snacks plant in Popesti-Leordeni, has earned several internal regional awards over the years, being recognized for its high standards of organization, respect for the environment, efficiency, best practices, and food quality. In 2018, the facility was awarded the title of "Best PepsiCo Plant in Europe.
